Harry Kane

Ballers Academy: How Early Years Football made Kane a Top Goalscorer

Spurs striker, Harry Kane has become a staple in English football, captaining England’s team to one of their best outcomes in a UEFA European Championship in recent years. Now, with more than 5 years under his belt at Tottenham, a 5-0 victory against Everton this week, secured his place just ahead of Thierry Henry for all-time Premier League goal scorers.

The debate around Kane’s future in the Premier League has gathered force after former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham advised the 28-year-old to leave the club to guarantee himself silverware. Despite these sentiments, the Walthamstow-born player could find it difficult to extricate himself from the club he grew up just 15 minutes away from.

Like many aspiring footballers, his early experiences of the beautiful game became the bedrock of his professional career. Beginning his career at Ridgeway Rovers at just six years old he was raised within a passionate family of Tottenham supporters. This historical football club has played host to many aspiring footballers and is the alma mater of David Beckham himself.

Early years football not only nurtured his eventual goal-scoring prowess but taught him those core characteristics that make him a fantastic England Captain. Through those foundational mobility skills, Kane, and others like him learned how to function as a teammate and a leader.

Running, jumping and hand-eye coordination are core skills for children. They make up many of those core development targets that they need to reach whilst at school. Yet whether they aspire to be world-class athletes or not, many leave without those physical targets, and worse, without the confidence to pursue them.

Ballers Academy can bridge those gaps. Parents of children who attend sessions with us see the progress they make with us, week on week. From making friends to ball-handling, Ballers Academy establishes the skills they can take from playground to professional coaching sessions with ease.
